I’ve a dream for at least 15 years of being able to take a substantial trip to Spain.
After months of saving and planning, I’m finally doing it.
Here are some pics of my adventures so far. I’ve been to Barcelona, Bilbao, San Sebastian, and Valencia.
I’m a huge food and architecture nerd, and I have NOT been disappointed.
Best food has been the Michelin rated restaurant in Barcelona, followed closely by all the amazing cafes that I have just wandered into.
On the Architecture Front:
My favorite has been the Santiago Calatrava designed Center for Arts and Sciences in Valencia.
It’s nothing short of a masterpiece. Absolutely the best modern complex I’ve ever been to in my life.
Second was the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao designed by Frank Gehry. It’s so great that it makes me sad how average the Gehry building is in Seattle. We in the PNW did not get this caliber of building.
Third (only because I’ve been there before) was Sagrada Family by Gaudi. I can’t add anything beyond the mountain books that have been written already. He was a genius way ahead of his time.

This is amazing, Ron! I’m so happy for you! Enjoy!
Hi Ron, my brother has lived in Barcelona for more than 40 years and I still haven’t made it there yet. It is still on my bucket list if I ever get a chance to retire.
Hi ron… glad you’re enjoying Spain… i’ve been to all the places that you mentioned-beautiful… I hope you’re going to make it to seville… the old town-will blow you away architecturally!… I don’t miss it… then you could go to Tariffa… catch the ferry to morocco, and at least spend a day or two in Tangier if you don’t have time to go further into the fabulous country that it is.
