I Got COVID-19

I’m fully vaccinated.

I believe in the science and vaccines.

I also just recovered from a break through case of COVID-19.

At first, I didn’t want to go public with this news. Especially after months of doing show after show of harsh words for the unvaccinated. Practically berating people that denied the overwhelming mountain of evidence that the vaccines are safe and prevent deaths.

After staring at my phone for what felt like hours looking that the positive COVID test, I reached out to everyone that I had been around when I started to feel a sore throat. Luckily nobody else tested positive. That was a huge relief.

My first instinct was to not talk about this on the Ron & Don Show, but the more I thought about it, and the more I spoke to doctors and nurses, the more I was convinced that telling my story might do some good.

I’m convinced that had I not been fully vaccinated, I would most likely be in the hospital right now on a ventilator. I’m not trying to be overly dramatic, but after informing my primary care doc of the positive COVID test result, he had me booked for a monoclonal antibody treatment within 48 hours.

For those unfamiliar, from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services: “Monoclonal antibodies, or mAbs, are made in a laboratory to fight a particular infection—in this case, SARS-CoV-2—and are given to patients directly with an infusion.”

My treatment was with four injections to the abdomen, not the infusion, by a lovely and kind nurse at the Everett Clinic. It was the only time I left my condo over the entire isolation period.

Even with knowing that I was vaccinated, and getting the best medical treatments available, I still had moments of thinking, “Holy crap, over 5 million people have died from this…” and then going down that rabbit hole. It was scary, especially having to be isolated with virtually zero human contact. My heart really hurts for all those families that could not be with their loved one when they passed away from this crazy virus.

I want to publicly thank Don. He would bring me a few bags of food and leave them outside my door every couple of days. That meant the world to me. It was reassuring to know that someone was checking in on me.

So what’s the take away here?

  • Vaccines are not a force field, but they do lessen the severity of break through cases. There are very few cases of fully vaccinated people needing to be hospitalized.
  • If you haven’t been vaccinated, please do it. It can literally save your life and the life of people close to you.
  • I ’m grateful to be alive and on the mend, and I hope this helps at least one person.

You can hear Don and me talk about it on today’s episode of the Ron & Don Show.
